Christ Lammfelle HorseDreams Information

Christ Lammfelle offer some of the finest bareback pads made in the world.
Christ Bareback Pads or Fur Saddles feature plush 100% Medical grade Merino lambskin with hard wearing cotton twill.
This bareback riding pad sets new standards in terms of riding feel and riding therapy. 30mm merino lambskin top and bottom is luxuriously comfortable for you and your horse. Tests carried out by independent expert riders and riding therapists have confirmed the positive qualities and the effect of this bareback pad on both horse and rider.

These Merino Lambskin Bareback pads are anatomically shaped and provide plenty of padding to protect your horses back whilst giving that great bareback riding experience. Most Bareback pads are designed for occasional riding and short sessions, but due to the double layer of lambskin and composite foam padding (removable when washing); pressure and weight are evenly distributed and your horses back is protected from pressure from your 'seat bones'. Equally you can ride in comfort with the lambskin helping to act as a shock absorber for your spine. Very therapeutic for both you and your horse.

The ultimate in Natural horsemanship. Users of these Bareback pads often comment on the fluidity of their horse when using the pad and improved muscle tone.

These bareback pads are ideal for:
  • Backing horses
  • Schooling youngsters
  • Sensitive backed horses
  • Horses recovering from back injuries
  • Horses that have trouble with saddle fitting for any reason
  • Novice riders being taught to get a good riding position
  • RDA and Hippotherapy groups
  • Donkeys and Mules
  • All fields of natural horsemanship

The pad is suitable for and will fit many shapes of horse and pony as being treeless and made of sheepskin, it is completely flexible and causes no pressure points. No specialized fitting required! They can be an excellent option when one can not afford or find a saddle to fit.

There is a strong loop at the front of the pad to aid with rider balance (if required) which is also great for carrying the pad.
D rings are positioned on the pad for use of a breast plate, crupper and training aids if needed.

Please note a dressage girth is required with these pads, Christ produce beautiful lambskin lined girths to compliment your fur saddle. We recommend your girth sits about one - two hands width above your horses elbows.

Christ bareback pad allows particularly intensive riding pleasure. The closeness to the horse produces a strong bond in which the warmth and the movements of the horse can be pleasantly felt. Like other bareback pads, it is not usually used with stirrups, however stirrup leathers can be used for basic balance.
  • Stirrups can be attached to the bareback pads via the strong inbuilt D rings, safety stirrups are always recommended, and an additional treeless pad with foam inserts and spinal clearance will be required.
  • Christ offers their merino lambskin treeless pads designed to fit perfectly under your choice of bareback pad.
  • Bareback pads are not recommended for jumping or lots of two pointing, with weight in the stirrups for extended periods of time. Stirrups should be used for basic balance checks only, in our opionion.
  • The D rings are set lower then on traditional saddles, so you will likely need shorter stirrup leathers.

About Medicinal Lambskin Products

Lambskin is a natural product, it is fully breathable, suitable for both summer and winter use and is excellent from a hygiene point of view as it is naturally bacteria resistant. Horsedream lambskins have been carefully created to be very easy care and involve no more and, if anything, less work than equestrian products made from other substances.

The softness of the lambskin against the horse’s skin will help the horse to feel comfortable, take away any pressure, and encourage the horse to move freely. It will help to prevent sweating or rubbing, and aid the horse in its ability to perform and respond to the rider, feeling only what you want the horse to feel i.e. you, the rider, and not uneven pressure from the tack.

All Horsedream products are made out of the finest, purest sheepskin/lambskin and are made to the highest quality specifications.
Lambskins have a high therapeutic value; they promote circulation and are temperature balancing. They reduce saddle pressure and prevent the development of sores.
In addition, lambskins do not provide a breeding ground for viruses and bacteria, and they neutralize acids and odours and are naturally dirt resistant.
They are easy care and hard wearing.

Caring for Your Bareback Pad

Easy to keep clean, Christ products have been designed to easily withstand gentle washing in the machine at low temperatures and even low tumble drying! (Remove all foam inserts first, including the cantle support) A special sheepskin product is always recommended for washing, to preserve oils in the sheepskin, keeping it soft and supple and the fleece springy and soft.

We know riding horses gets everything grubby and sweaty. Well just air your Horsedream products, and it will be fine! However, if after tramping through mud you feel you need to wash your product. Simply pop it in a machine wash at 30 degrees on a wool wash and tumble dry afterwards (we strongly recommend you use a sheepskin detergent). If you don’t want to tumble dry, then stretch the product out flat to dry.  Reshape the product several times through the drying process.

Bareback Pad Sizing

The size of your Bareback pad is determined by you the rider, rather than by your horse/pony as they are totally treeless and flexible. There is no weight limit for short rides without stirrups, but for riders heavier than say 70kg we suggest a treeless pad should also be used.
For use with stirrups a treeless pad is always needed & there is a weight limit of around 80kg.
